Our booth has toured the length and breadth of the UK, the Houses of Parliament and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in Alicante. From Brian May, ministers and school children the karaoke shower has given hundreds of people the chance to sing their hearts out whilst learning about the value of creativity and Intellectual property rights.
The message behind the Karaoke shower is that artists are no different from the rest of us when it comes to needing an income. Just as there are laws protecting physical property, there are also laws protecting creativity and innovation (intellectual property laws). Downloading without payment or express permission is illegal and piracy is affecting artists’ livelihoods. Though artists and owners of this intellectual property have the right to take legal action against infringers, most would prefer to educate their fans on the real impact. One shower superstar said:
“I've learned about the importance of copyright to the music I love during my IPO Karaoke Shower moment.”

Working together with UK Music we have spread the word far and wide about the importance of respecting Intellectual Property attending hundreds of events and attracting over 30,000 members of the public. This year the Karaoke Shower has travelled 3,665 miles!
Shower superstars have been able to share and watch back their performances with friends and family via our You Tube channel whilst learning the importance of copyright to music they love. We aim to provide young consumers a better understanding of, and respect for intellectual property through online interactive campaigns, teaching resources and competitions.
